What is the NEMSMF?
The National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation (NEMSMF) is exclusively authorized to establish the National EMS Memorial in Washington, D.C. to recognize the commitment, service, and sacrifice of the Nation’s EMS providers, killed or injured in the line of duty and for all those that continue to serve.
The Foundation evolved into a national network of EMS providers, survivors of EMS line of duty fatalities, and private citizens committed to this common goal.
Why is there a need for an EMS Memorial?
Each year, throughout the United States, EMS providers respond to millions of calls, from the medical emergencies of a single person to larger volume calls resulting from natural disasters, mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and global pandemics.
Although faced with the certainty that the risks associated with the critical role of EMS results in an unacceptable rate of injury and fatality to these responders.
These men and women continue to serve in the face of risk, danger, and sacrifice in service to the Nation and its citizens, without hesitation or regard for their own safety.
Where will the Memorial be located?
We are currently in the final stages of the Federal approval process to secure a site in Washington, D.C.
Establishing a National EMS Memorial in the nation’s capital is a major undertaking. As with all of the memorials, monuments and museums in Washington DC, the National EMS Memorial will forever change the landscape of our nation’s capital.
Although the Site Selection process has been the most arduous part of our efforts so far; Through an extensive process of elimination, we were able to narrow down the list of 100 potential sites to 3!
We are working diligently to make sure that the site we acquire will be the most appropriate and deserving of the National EMS Memorial.
When will it be completed?
We're well on the way to creating a National EMS Memorial in Washington, DC. The US government's approval process to secure a site is in the final stages, and the design and construction phase of the Memorial will quickly follow. But we need your help to bring it to reality.
Once the Site selection & design approval process is complete the next step is construction, however; all fundraising must be completed before construction can begin.
110% of the total cost of the memorial needs to be raised before we can begin to build (10% is given to the National Park Service for the perpetual care of the memorial).
How can I help?
After the site has been obtained, the biggest phase of this project remains—to raise the funds to build it. Although the land is provided by the government, public law prohibits tax dollars or government assistance to be given to construct any Memorial in Washington D.C. All money must be raised through private donations from individuals, companies, and organizations.
You can make a tax-deductible donation to the foundation and become part of the Memorial’s history. All proceeds go directly toward building the Memorial.
